| Hi Y'all!
Sorry you didn't hear from me last week. The week totally
got away from me what with all the new announcements
and products coming in.
The October calendar and contest are
out.
This month, not only will we have our 3rd Semi-Annual
Auction night, we will be having a Charity crop!
Congratulations to Evelyn Cook and Cindy Bridger for
winning the layout
contest last month! They each have one a $15 gift certificate
to Scrapnesia!
The Charity crop will
be held on Saturday, October 17th. The crop fees will
be donated to Juvinile Rheumatoid Arthritis research
through "Team Karissa." Karissa is Kaysi's
daughter. (Kaysi is a member of the Design Team). In
2006, Karissa was diagnosed with polyarticular juvenile
rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). Karissa’s arthritis
symptoms appeared just after she started to walk. Sometimes
she would drag her leg, or walk stiff-kneed like Frankenstein.
After a whole battery of tests, her parents were told
it was just growing pains. Then one day after she woke
up from her nap, she could not walk. She had to drag
herself to a chair and she had a big red golf-ball sized
knot above her knee. After many more doctors and tests,
she was finally diagnosed with JRA.
Karissa has arthritis in both knees,
both ankles, both wrists, most of her fingers and even
some of her toes. Commonly associated with older people,
many people don’t realize that children can get
arthritis, when in fact approximately 300,000 children
in the United States suffer from the often debilitating
disease. For some kids, diagnosis is agonizing because
it’s often a case of determining what it ISN’T
before you can determine what it IS.
On October 25th, Karissa’s family and friends
will be walking for “Team Karissa” in the
2009 Upstate, SC Arthritis Walk. The Arthritis Walk®
is the Arthritis Foundation’s annual nationwide
event that raises awareness and funds to fight arthritis,
the nation’s most common cause of disability.
Please join us at our Charity Crop on October 17th and
help us raise funds to battle Arthritis. You can visit
the Arthritis Foundation’s website at www.arthritis.org
or visit the Team Karissa website
for more information about this disease.
