Hi Y'all!
Don't forget the Illuminations Event this Saturday,
November 7th at 5:00 pm at the Carolina First Center.
The Upstate's night of 10,000 lights! Shop to your heart's
content with locally owned businesses like Scrapnesia,
Funkie Munkie Scraps and Nicoles Memories on Main. There
will be an Elvis impersonator, Showgirls, Karaoke, Games
to play in, and over $7,000 in prizes! Tickets can be
purchased at the store for $7.00 each. Tickets
can be purchased today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday)
for only $5.00 each. This is a pre-holiday
sale you will never forget!
Now
to talk about another important event this Saturday.
For those of you who didn't know about Scrappy, Scrapnesia's
stray cat out back...here's the story. Kaysi saw this
tiny little cat with a bob tail out back in the parking
lot and her heart went gooey. Kaysi proceeded to feed
this cat at every crop trying to get him to come to
her. She and Cindy even followed him across the railroad
track through the briars and brush. Finally, we caught
the cat, so Kaysi had to find the cat a home. She found
this awesome gentleman in Simpsonville who operates
Loving Home Animal Rescue. The man who runs this
animal rescue is a disabled marine who operates from
his home using donations and his own income.
LOVING
HOME ANIMAL RESCUE TO HOST ADOPT-A-THON, DONATION DRIVE
& VOLUNTEER OPEN HOUSE
(Fountain Inn, S.C.) Loving Home Rescue and Adoption,
a family-based 501.3c, NO KILL non-profit pet rescue
operation in Fountain Inn, will host an Adopt-a-Thon,
a Donation Drive and a Volunteer Open House this Saturday,
November 7th, from 10:00am to 5:00pm. The local no-kill
pet rescue had planned to host these events last weekend,
but due to inclement weather, the event has been rescheduled.
“We take in damaged and injured animals, the
old and very young, the disabled, and the ‘plain-Janes
and average-Joes’- the ones with the awesome personalities
who just can't compete with the cute little puppies
and kittens that everyone wants to take home.”
said McKnight, who, being a disabled Marine himself,
can identify.
The number of cats and dogs at the no-kill shelter
at any one time is fluid – animals are dropped
off and animals are adopted – but a general head
count can reveal up to 50 dogs and puppies and 80 cats
and kittens. The rescue has suffered a large influx
of animals during the recession, which is why McKnight
plans to host an Adopt-A-Thon of kittens, cats, puppies
and dogs that day.
Located off Fairview Road in Fountain Inn, SC, Loving
Home runs entirely off donations, which are CRITICAL
in their efforts to rescue animals from euthanasia,
abuse, neglect and overpopulation and McKnight admits
that more donations are desperately needed to help with
the shelter’s rising vet bills, but also added
that money isn’t the only valuable commodity.
Some people contribute bags of dog and cat food and
cat litter. Others help by donating building materials
or fencing that McKnight can use to add on to the shelter.
Some people simply donate their labor or time. “We
encourage people to come visit the animals, just to
pet them and talk to them, and help socialize them for
potential new homes” he said.
Currently, the shelter is in need of volunteers to
help with all aspects of the animals’ care and
shelter operations, including feeding, cleaning and
playing with the animals, carpentry projects, shelter
promotion-both locally and on the Internet (blogs, websites,
social media), public relations and fundraising efforts,
and the adoption process of naming the dogs and cats,
photographing them, and uploading their information
to the various adoption websites.
If you would like to adopt a pet, volunteer
or make a donation, please call (864) 399-2612 or visit
their website at www.LovingHomeRescue.com.
